Organised by the Philippine Australian Sports & Culture Inc. (PASC Inc.), this annual fiesta is the largest and longest-running Filipino cultural festival in Australia, celebrating more than three decades of tradition, heritage, and community spirit. Each year, thousands gather to immerse themselves in the warmth and colour of Filipino culture, and 2025 promises to be the most spectacular yet.


A Major Highlight: Eat Bulaga Live!

This year’s festival will be extra special, with Eat Bulaga, the Philippines’ longest-running noontime variety show, headlining the event. For the first time, Sydney audiences will experience a full live show direct from Manila, featuring the program’s legendary hosts, entertainers, and iconic games. On 10 November 2024, the luxurious Sir Stamford Plaza in Mascot, NSW, played host to Repurposed: A Fashion Concert by Mr. Gino-o, a celebration of Filipino-inspired fashion, culture, and diversity. This remarkable event, curated by visionary Albert Prias, CEO of Mr. Gino-o, also marked his birthday celebration. The evening showcased an awe-inspiring fusion of traditional Filipino craftsmanship and modern design, setting a new benchmark for multicultural fashion events in Australia.

Ambisioza’s Filipiniana collection, co-created by Kate Ederadad and Joy Ventura, was a breathtaking tribute to traditional Filipino attire. By integrating modern elements, they offered a collection that resonated with both heritage enthusiasts and contemporary fashion lovers.

Rene Rivas, a multi-awarded designer with a career spanning over 30 years, brought his iconic style to the event. Known for designing costumes for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and various international pageants, Rivas showcased his ability to merge multicultural elements with timeless elegance.

Albert Prias: Celebrating a Visionary Leader

The evening also honoured Albert Prias, the creative force behind Mr. Gino-o. Hosted by Jojo Almazora Sebastian and the production crew at Flagcom, the celebration included heartfelt tributes, a delectable buffet featuring dishes like beef and curry chicken, and lively entertainment by Cherry and Friends, Laelani, and Mia.

The Grand Multicultural Entertainment Festival on August 31, 2024, saw the exciting culmination of the first-ever Mr. Gino-o’s Ultimate Male Model competition. This landmark event, a collaborative effort between StarCentral Magazine, RGeM Promotions and Management, and Flagcom, marked the debut of Mr. Gino-o’s mission to reinvent the Barong Tagalog, showcasing it in a modern and contemporary light while preserving its cultural essence.

Celebrating Filipino Craftsmanship

Mr. Gino-o; Made For Men was created to elevate and promote Philippine products and materials on an international scale. The brand incorporates traditional Filipino textiles like abaca, jusi, piña, banana fibre, inaul, inabel, and tinalak, all hand-woven and crafted by Filipino artisans. Each collection, based on the creative vision of designer Albie Prias, aimed to reinterpret the classic Barong Tagalog, making it trendy and relevant to contemporary fashion without losing its cultural aesthetic.

A Panel of Distinguished Judges

The judging panel featured some of the most respected names in fashion and pageantry.

Leading the panel was Olan Roque, an accomplished fashion designer with a rich background in tailoring and dressmaking. Trained at the Quezon City Polytechnic University, Olan gained international experience in Dubai, where he created stunning garments for celebrities and pageant candidates. As the Founding Chairman of One Designers Club (ODC), Olan continues to influence the fashion world with his innovative designs and vision.

Joining him was Cole Nocera, a dedicated disability carer and assistant director for the National Australia Miss pageant. Cole also runs Mrs. South Regency International Pacific and brings her unique perspective from both pageantry and community service to the judging panel.

Completing the panel was René Rivas, a multi-award-winning fashion designer and artist renowned for his couture costumes across various media, including film, theatre, opera, TV, and magazines. René’s work has been featured at prestigious events such as Mardi Gras and the 2000 Sydney Olympics. As a Hall of Fame awardee, LGBTQI+ icon, and international humanitarian, René has earned numerous accolades, including a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising his contributions to the arts and multiculturalism in Australia.

The Competitors: Showcasing Talent and Style

The competition featured seven outstanding contestants: Eman, Lester, Ram, Robert, Sha Bala, Henry, and Jupiter. Each competitor brought their unique flair to the runway, impressing the judges and audience with their charisma, style, and confidence.

The contestants were judged across three main categories: Theme Costume, Beach Wear, and Formal Wear, with additional awards recognising exceptional achievements in each.

Results of the Competition

  • Best in Theme Costume: Eman, who wowed the judges with his unique interpretation of the theme, blending traditional and modern elements with poise.
  • Best in Beach Wear: Robert, whose confidence and style in the beachwear segment set him apart, winning him the title in this category.

  • Best in Formal Wear: Jupiter, who captivated the audience with his elegance and sophistication on stage, securing the title of Best in Formal Wear.
  • Designer’s Choice Award: Ram, who was recognised for his distinctive style and presentation, earning the Designer’s Choice Award.

As the competition drew to a close, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived. Robert was named the first runner-up, while Eman emerged as the winner, claiming the coveted title of Mr. Gino-o’s Ultimate Male Model 2024.

“Pulang Araw” debuts early on Netflix

GMA Network’s highly-anticipated drama, “Pulang Araw, is set to premiere on Netflix this July 26.

In a first for the Network, the series will be available on the streaming platform 72 hours ahead of its scheduled local airing on GMA on July 29.

Headlining this groundbreaking series are some of the biggest Kapuso stars: Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza as Adelina, First Lady of Primetime Sanya Lopez as Teresita, Pambansang Ginoo David Licauco as Hiroshi, and Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards as Eduardo, with the special participation of Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo as Col. GMA Network’s film production arm, GMA Pictures, is taking film viewing to another level by launching its own YouTube channel this July.

The channel, accessible at www.youtube.com/@GMAPictures, offers a diverse lineup of films designed to satisfy every cinephile’s taste.

This month, viewers can enjoy high-quality and well-loved films produced by GMA Pictures, such as “The Road,” “Mulawin the Movie,” “Just One Summer,” “My Kontrabida Girl,” and “I Will Always Love You,” among others.

Also to make their premiere on GMA Pictures YouTube channel are “Ang Panday,” “Dance of The Steel Bars,” “I.T.A.L.Y.,” “In Your Eyes,” “My Lady Boss,” “The Promise,” “When I Met U,” “Tween Academy,” “You To Me Are Everything,” “Boy Pick-Up The Movie,” “Patient X,” and “Temptation Island.”

GMA Network celebrates the Christmas season with its 2024 Christmas Station ID, “Ganito Ang Paskong Pinoy: Puno ng Pasasalamat.” Launched on Monday, November 11, following “24 Oras,” the heartwarming video places gratitude at the center of the holiday celebration – serving as a timely reminder and tribute to what Paskong Pinoy really is.
Being one with the Filipino, GMA Network wholeheartedly embraces a culture of gratitude as Filipinos come together to celebrate the season with and give thanks to the Lord, family, friends, and loved ones. Approaching its 75th anniversary next year, the Kapuso Network reflects on its journey with deep appreciation for the unwavering support of Filipino audiences.
